Harry was one of 8 children born, nine years before the war. During the blitz, he was evacuated to Somerset and Lancashire. In 1949, he was posted to Egypt for his National Service where he served as a Corporal. In 1954, he was married to Ailish Lyons, whom he met at a dancehall a year previously. Harry and Ailish had two sons - Norman (1959) and James (1963). Harry did many jobs, but for most of his working life, he worked for London and Essex Ambulance Service where he aspired to be a Training Officer and Paramedic. He retired in 1989 and concentrated on doing the things he loved best, gardening, mending things and reading. Harry always had time for friends and family in need. If you were in a jam, he would drop what he was doing, jump in the car and help out. He did this throughout his retirement until his untimely and sudden death on a beautiful summer's day in June 2006.
